Genetic Diversity and Streptomycin Sensitivity in Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. punicae Causing Oily Spot Disease in Pomegranates

Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. punicae (Xap) causes bacterial blight disease in pomegranates, often leading to 60–80% economic loss. In absence of a suitable Xap-resistant variety, the near-monoculture susceptible Bhagwa, has aggravated problem further. recent times, Xap spread different geographical regions, indicating wide adaptability pathogen. Moreover, lower sensitivity towards streptocycline containing streptomycin sulphate and tetracycline (9:1) under field conditions is frequently reported. Therefore, current study was undertaken assess genetic variability isolates using SSR markers, their vitro evaluated, probable molecular basis acquired resistance studied. Two highly diverse showed extreme differences pathogenicity, evolving nature all less than 50% growth inhibition on media 1500 µg/mL streptomycin, level antibiotic sensitivity. On level, 90% presence strA-strB genes involved metabolism. Additionally, G A transitions were observed rpsL gene some isolates. The data suggest that horizontal transfer (strAB) and/or spontaneous mutation (in rpsL) could be responsible for streptomycin.
